Are you in the market to buy used clubs but concerned that you may not get a good deal ? This post provides you with some quick tips on what to look for and what to look out for when you are in the market for used golf clubs.
Buy Used Clubs
A golf club has three main parts . You have the grip, the shaft and the clubhead. Each part has its own unique wear signs to focus on when considering buying used.
1. Grip. You can tell much about the golf club by quickly looking at the amount of wearing on the grip. Is it cracking or showing worn or chipped areas? Then this used club might need a new grip fairly soon. While adding a new grip is not difficult, it will add approximately $10 to the price of the club and could make buying used less desired then buying new.
2. Shaft. Your clubs likely be steel or graphite, both are good materials but here are some considerations:
a. Graphite shafts. Clubs with graphite shafts are lighter than their steel counterparts. What this means to you is a quicker swing speed and that could mean an additional 5 to 15 yards from the club . Graphite shafts are more costly than steel shafts but will send less vibration into your hands , which make graphite shafts more appropriate for beginners.
b. Steel shafts. Clubs that have steel shafts can be the desired material for experienced golfers because the rigid steel gives subtle feedback to the golfer's hands and a feeling of more control throughout the swing. Steel shafts will cost less but are better suited to golfers with a low handicap.
3. Clubhead. The clubheads can reveal how much the club has been played . If you notice a worn or shiny spot on the face of the club you may be better off not buying that club. Thw worn area can cause a misdirection when hitting the ball . Look to be sure the grooves on the clubhead are still well defined.
Buying used clubs can be a terrific way to save cash but keep in mind that new clubs that come on the market are priced high to start and then typically to come down in price. Therefore, before you press the "Buy Now" button on that used golf club, be sure to check the price tag on the new club...you may be surprised.
Nice weather is soon upon us and people everywhere are digging into the back of their garage organizer systems and pulling out last year's clubs. It's time to add a fun new or used club to your golf bag . It may be exactly what you need to walk into a new golf year .
